This week we have Tom Reber for the Contractor Fight Podcast. Tom is a Marine veteran and a man who leads contractor fight podcast and former owner of a successful residential painting company outside Chicago. I got out of the Marines I worked for my uncle for couple years ran his crewsa, Fast forward another couple years and up start my own business and we. Outside of the Chicago land area we're out of a little ten by ten room in my basements and within three years we're doing a little over between three and four hundred jobs per year. What happens so much in the market place is that contractors don't get credit for their abilities. And a lot of that is our own fault. We don’t give ourselves the proper credit for or own expertise We need to be our biggest fan! if I can be honest it simply comes down to I don't think we are our own biggest fan you know if you're going to be a business owner if you're going to take on, everything that comes with having your name on the check right and then. You first and foremost must make the most important sale you make every day is that one to yourself that you're the man or woman for the job. You have to own it. You must believe there is no better option in town than you and you've got to get your head right around then, if you don't have your head right around that really understand the value you're bringing people. Then you're going to have a harder time building your business that's so true . One of the challenges is many contractors don't see themselves as the business owners. You know winning this contractor fight that I'm all about is about us taking back our dignity as contractors you know for too long, we have told ourselves a B.S. story that you know life has to be a certain way for a contractor you know to too long contractors have made crap money you know I you know it does not have to be this way. We need to come to the realization as contractors we have value in the market place. And we should be paid in accordance to the value we bring to the market place.
