Bonus interview with Doug Rucker New President of UAMCC episode 74 The reason we put together this pod cast is for 3 reasons 1 to introduce Doug Rucker as the new president of the UAMCC and to create a vehicle for all the members so they could have something simple and easy to pass on to someone they think should join the UAMCC and help make their businesses better. This week I wanted to welcome and introduce Doug Rucker the new president of the UAMCC and to let our audience get a look into the organization and what they do to help mobile contract cleaners ,like pressure cleaners ,roof cleaners, window cleaners ,carper cleaners and any business that cleans mobile.
Right off the bat I asked Doug what is the main purpose of UAMCC his response was to help teach industry members how to be informed and to run a business profitably. The Organization holds many networking events around the country where contractors and suppliers vendors meet to be educated about the industry and new thins coming up in the industry and to meet other contractors and share ideas. The UAMCC offers certifications in many areas to help you be more professional and to show your customers that you are being continually educated in your industry and shows that you care and have a higher degree of professionalism. You become the expert.
You may say no has ever asked me if I am certified but like Doug said your 350.00 roof clean customer is never going to ask . however if you are a commercial cleaner or work on high end homes these are the people who want to know that the company who is proposing to work on their home or condo project is not a beginner . The 5 deadly sins of contractor marketing Episode 72 Marketing sin #1 Not understanding what marketing actually is. Marketing is one of those terms defined in a lot of different ways. Here's a good definition of marketing the quickest path to the sale with prospects and clients who are properly positioned to be sold without actually having to sell them, that may sound confusing but to make it easier, let's define the difference between sales and marketing. Sales: what we do when you have someone on the telephone or in front of you in our making a sales presentation. Marketing; what you do to get people on the telephone or in front of you in the first place. This means that marketing done correctly and most effectively is really just great positioning where you are viewed as a welcome guest of as an annoying pest. Marketing sin #2 not having an effective marketing system for selling services. The best type of marketing to use is direct response marketing instead of institutional image marketing. Direct response marketing allows you to sell your services in advance instead of just saying here I am here's what I do and here's my phone number, offering your name rank and serial number. What you need to do is properly position yourself with education-based marketing strategies. 24 hour prerecorded message have them visit the website, read an educational sales letter or a consumer awareness guide. These strategies educate clients in advance and position you as the authority in your field these strategies give them reasons other than price to distinguish what makes you and your company a great company to use.
Marketing sin #3 not using a headline in all your ads. Believe it or not, your company name is not a headline, a headline is an ad for the ad you ,want to use a statement that will get their interest and pull consumers in like mistakes to you avoid when choosing a remodeling company.10 questions to ask every contractor before you let them on your property.
Marketing sin #4 not raising your prices It is amazing how many construction professionals will go out and spend money on the best possible equipment best training educate themselves so they have more hours of education than their competitors but still continue to compete on price. Let's face it there are always going to be prospects who buy price and price shop but trying to appeal to that market segment is a losing proposition. Best quality work and lowest prices you do not want in the same sentence not to mention the same company. If you're going to try to compete low-price one then compete on the same low quality of service. It makes no sense to raise the level of value in one's area your education and your skill but not raising in terms of what you get paid. If you want to service high-end homes, high-end clientele you certainly want to price yourself accordingly so it says that you are high-end .Because high-priced home owners will not buy cheap.
How much you can charge for something is based on your ability to sell it which means the more you learn about marketing and the more you utilize a powerful marketing techniques the more you'll be able to charge for your services.
Marketing sin #5 not using testimonials in your marketing The most powerful ways promote and communicate the value of your service is by getting other people who think the world of you to say so They're your best sales people. Packing up those testimonials in the form of printing, audio or video any of your communications with prospects and clients. Each one of us needs to do more of that. In going to a home with the laptop and play testimonials to your prospective customers. No one sells your services better than really happy clients and this is one area of most of us underutilizes by all Having good information is not enough you have to know how to put it to work for you because you are in the marketing business it's your contracting business that receives the income based on your ability to market. So compare these five deadly sins of marketing to your own company but you won't burn for eternity for the sins but your business might.

This week I wanted to take you to different place in our marketing experience. I came across our guest a couple of weeks ago and like always didn’t want to meet with Clint. Mainly because I did not want to be sold a piece of advertising to fill up some guys print magazine. I met with Clint for 3 reasons I was referred to him by a realtor that I know and respect. 2. He said some right wording like he would like to be able to recommend me to the homeowners in the Highlands of Innisbrook. This particular community is one that I have done a lot of work in and wanted to do more. And 3 I did it for you for more material for the podcast knowing for sure I would be able to tell you what to stay away from in your marketing plans .
Big SURPRISE when I met with Clint and he gave me the rundown on N2 publishing I got real interested. For many reasons here are just a few the company has grown exponentially because they have figured out to make their publication involve the community sort of what Facebook has done but on a community level.
They have a great layout with lots of white space so your ad stands out and gets noticed however you have to remember to make your add appealing with a call to action. They will help you with your ad and its like having a graphic arts department working for you ,for a small I mean small fee you can change your ad each month a professional add. And you can use that ad anywhere else you want to advertise. To say the least you can tell I am impressed so impressed I went with the publication because I ‘m working in this exclusive area and I want to own it. I want the community to know who I am and referrer me. And for the price I’m paying for my ad I cannot market to each one in that subdivision some 220 home that start at 800k. This is a marketing strategy on farming and branding in an exclusive area that I want to own. Will I in the future market to each home owner on occasion probably? And guaranteed I get a better response because of my association with n2 publications.
